Alpaca fiber is one of the rarest natural fibers in the world. It is used in luxurious clothing designed by some of the most elite fashion houses in Europe and Asia.
Alpaca fiber is unique in several ways. Alpaca fiber comes in over 20 different natural colors, ranging from white, through tans, reds and browns, to black. Alpaca fiber also is found in several shades of gray. It blends well with other types of natural (and manmade) fibers. Microscopic examination of alpaca fiber reveals a unique structure. Unlike sheep's wool, alpaca fibers have a smooth shaft, a trait that reduces the prickly feel often associated with wool clothing.
Alpaca fiber, it's like gold on the hoof!
There are a growing number of options for processing alpaca fiber into luxurious finished products. As the alpaca industry matures we can only expect these options to increase.
